stop sending AI videos of my dad

Zelda, the daughter of the late comedian Robin Williams, is begging fans to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father.
The “Good Will Hunting” star’s only daughter took to Instagram to express her disapproval of AI-generated tributes to her father.
“Please stop sending me AI dad videos,” Zelda shared on her Instagram Story. “Stop thinking I want to see it or that I will understand, I don’t understand it and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen much worse, I’ll cut it short and move on.”
The 36-year-old also pointed out that her father, who died by suicide in 2014, would not have approved of the videos.
“If you have any decency, stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone, period,” she added. “It’s stupid, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he would want.”
The “Lisa Frankenstein” director went on to call the AI-generated videos “disgusting” and “disgusting,” while denouncing the growing trend on social media to create clips of deceased celebrities.
“You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hot dogs out of the lives of human beings, the history of art and music,” she wrote. “And then shove them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little push and like it. Disgusting.”
She continued to criticize AI in general, calling AI-generated content “simply poorly recycling and regurgitating the past for re-consumption.”
This is not the first time that the filmmaker has spoken out against the use of AI. During the SAG-AFTRA strike in October 2023, Williams raised concerns about replacing actors’ voices, including that of her late father.
“I am not an impartial voice in SAG’s fight against AI,” she wrote on her Instagram at the time. “I’ve seen for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who can’t consent, like Dad.”
